SSOC Tohban Report for Week 34 (16-Aug-99 -- 22-Aug-99) SSOC: T. Yokoyama, A. Sterling KSC: S. Fujimaki, K. Hori 0. Meeting Attendance Yokoyama, Sterling, Irie, Hara, Watanabe, Hudson, Sakao -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity Activity was moderately low most of the week, but increased toward week's end with several M-class flares. -------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded during week 34: ===================================================== JST Date Pass Table ID ===================================================== 16-AUG-99 12:42 3 990816 P3 ARS1 STD 17-AUG-99 09:31 1 990817 P1 ARS1 DARK 17-AUG-99 12:56 3 990817 P3 ARS1 DIFF 18-AUG-99 14:54 4 990818 P1 ARS1 QRES (Postponed from pass 1) 19-AUG-99 08:18 1 990819 P1 ARS2 SIG 19-AUG-99 15:08 5 990819 P5 ARS1 QRES* 20-AUG-99 17:32 1 990820 P1 ARS0 SIG 20-AUG-99 13:40 4 990820 P4 ARS1 QRES 21-AUG-99 08:47 2 990821 P2 ARS1 STD ===================================================== 2.2 STT Timer setting STT timer was set during Pass 2 of 17-Aug-99. The next Timer Set is due on Tuesday, 24-Aug-99 (UT). -------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Special Operations 3.1 Sigmoid Campaign Several SXT tables were uploaded in attempts to catch "exciting sigmoids" in action, in combination with SOHO, TRACE, and ground-based observations. The Whole Sun Month-3 campaign is also continuing. -------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Errors and Problems 4.1 BCS Error A BCS SEU was found and recovered during pass 990817-1033. 4.2 SXT Error None 4.3 DSN Final Schedule Format. The DSN Final Schedule for w34 was not readable by op_first_guess in its original form. Watanabe san noticed that the PASS NO. column contained 5-digit numbers---all beginning with "4"---whereas the schedules for the previous weeks only contained 4-digit pass numbers. Apparently op_first_guess looks for 4-digit pass numbers only. We rectified the problem by manually removing the leading "4" from each of the pass numbers. Watanabe san informs us that this problems has occurred previously, with a frequency of approximately once per year. We suggest that the new Tohbans check to see if the extra digit appears in the final schedule for w36. If it does not, then this may have just been a rare "feature" in the DSN schedule, and there is no need to take further action. If the extra digit does appear in the new final schedule, then Wallops should be contacted to see if this will be a permanent format change, in which case op_first_guess would have to be modified. The extra digit did not appear in the Preliminary Schedule for w36. Hudson san will investigate this issue from a software standpoint. -------------------------------------------------------------- 5. NASA Station Scheduling 5.1 Contact pass cancelations/additions The following DSN/NASA passes were added/deleted: =================================================================== DSN/NASA Schedule Week Schedule Changes =================================================================== Real-time 34 0 cancelations by SSOC Final 35 2 cancelations by SSOC Preliminary 36 0 cancelations Strawman 37 49 cancelations by SSOC =================================================================== 5.2 Data Transmission from NASA Ground Stations -(From /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/99_34)--------------- 219 74 2136 corrupted tape requested 10-Aug no response tape requested 17-Aug Closed/ same data 222 80 0502 corrupted tape requested 17-Aug Closed/ same data * 222 16 1000 10% corrupted requested 17-Aug Closed/ same data * 222 16 1000-1014 ID-3022: 16862 blocks Degraded data due to antenna problem. -------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In Week 34, 14 KSC contacts were lost, 5 to Akebono, 9 to Asuka. In Week 35, 13 KSC contacts will be lost, 4 to Akebono, 7 to Asuka, 2 to Haruka. Note: For future weeks, it would be nice if Yohkoh could get passes 4 and 5 prior to each weekend operation, and passes 1 and 2 immediately following. Doing this would allow us to retain the maximum number of NASA passes through the weekend. -------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 35 SSOC: Irie (-28), Hara KSC: S.Fujimaki, Hata 7.2 STT timer setting The next STT TIMER SET is due on 24-Aug-99 (UT). 7.3 Holiday Schedule Next Yohkoh holiday will be Sunday, 29-Aug-99 (UT). 7.4 Final Schedule Format Take note of the format of the w36 Final Schedule as discussed in Section 4.3 above. 7.5 Tohban Manual The English-language version of the Tohban Manual was updated; only minor changes were required. A corresponding checksheet was also generated. ------------- The Following is Unchanged from Last Week -------------- 7.5 Software problems pr_gev with /hc keyword produces a temporary output file but does not print it at the printer. 7.6 If possible, please schedule terminator opportunities on any weekend table (i.e., if room permits). 7.7 KSC pass conflicts ASCA conflicts cause the loss of about 10 KSC contacts per week at this time. We do not know which contacts Yohkoh will lose until the weekly meeting. Santiago contacts occur on the same orbits as KSC contacts. Therefore, keep as many Santiago contacts as possible in the DSN Strawman and Preliminary Forecasts. 7.8 Command glossary We need a shorthand glossary for common OP and command-sheet commands. This already exists pretty much in the Sakao manual in Japanese, and the Week 26 tohbans started accumulating an English version on "yohkoh.glossary" === END ===
