SSOC Tohban Report for Week 46 (08-Nov-99 -- 14-Nov-99) SSOC: K. Shibasaki, H. Kozu KSC: M. Yamaguchi, T. Morimoto 0. Meeting Attendance Ogawara, Kosugi, Sakao, Matsuzaki, Hara, Shimizu, Sawa, Suga, Hudson, Mckenzie, Khan, Kozu, Shibasaki ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity The solar activity was high. Non-flaring GOES level reached C3 or higher. However, no X-class flares occurred. Twelve M-class flares occurred and the largest was M8 on 14-NOV-99. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded during week 46: ================================================================ JST Day UT Start Time Pass Table ID ================================================================ Wednesday 9-NOV-99 20:39 3 991108 P3 ARS1 DIFF* Thursday 10-NOV-99 17:28 1 991110 P1 MERCURY* Thursday 10-NOV-99 20:53 3 991110 P3 ARS1 DARK* Friday 11-NOV-99 15:59 1 991111 P1 ARS1 STD* Saturday 12-NOV-99 17:54 2 991112 P2 ARS1 STD* Sunday 13-NOV-99 18:07 3 991113 P3 ARS1 STD* ================================================================ 2.2 STT Timer setting STT timer was stopped during Pass 2 on 09-Nov-99 (UT) due to long eclipse. It will be re-started during Pass 2 on 17-Nov-99 (UT). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Special Operations 3.1 Satellite Pointing update A normal pointing update (ROG 032(Dec)) was carried out at Pass 1 on 10-Nov-99 (UT). 3.2 Preparation for D3K To celebrate the 3000th day of YOHKOH on Nov. 15, two big evnts are scheduled. We have done preparation works this week. 1) Mercury transit: Test observation was done on Thursday using the SXT Table "991110 P1 MERCURY*". Special OP and SXT Table are prepared for the actual observation on Nov. 15. 2) The prince and the princess transit: Lot of cleaning works were done. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Errors and Problems 4.1 BCS Errors: None 4.2 SXT Errors: 4.2.1 An error occurred during the upload of SXT table in Pass 3 on 08-Nov-99 (UT). After "SXT TBL RE", the dumpped SXT table did not match to the table in MS. Day long investigation by Hara san and others, it was clearly explained what happened. The timing of SXT TABLE WR and Day OG (05) by daylight sensor coincided, hence the table writing was rejected. This situation could be easily recovered by resending the table (which is written in the manual). We leaned that we should read manuals more carefully and that helps the SXT super tohaban not to be alarmed in midnight. The table "991108 P3 ARS1 DIFF*" was uploaded in Pass 3 (9-NOV-99 20:39 UT) and everything went well. 4.2.2 WM SET error occured in Pass 2 on 12-Nov-99 (UT). Yobi-A and Yobi-B were done during the pass and it ended with Invalid Mail Error. During the next pass (Pass 5 on 12-Nov-99 UT) SXT Recovery Plan was done and the error was recovered. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. NASA Station Scheduling 5.1 Contact pass cancellations/additions The following DSN/NASA passes were added/deleted: =========================================================================== DSN/NASA Schedule Week Schedule Changes =========================================================================== Final 46 1 Cancellations by SSOC Final 47 8 Cancellations by SSOC Strawman 49 74 Cancellations by SSOC =========================================================================== Due to the delay of the arrival of Forecast #48 from Wallops, we could not review the DSN schedule of the week 48. 5.2 Data Transmission from NASA Ground Stations ----(Copy of /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/99_46)---- 301 76 2019 missing data requested 02-Nov corrupted tape requested 04-Nov no response tape requested 09-Nov Closed/ same data 305 74 2124 corrupted tape requested 09-Nov Closed/ same data 307 82 1124 corrupted tape requested 09-Nov Closed/ correct data 312 46 1149 not received requested 10-Nov Closed/ No data 312 74 1748 not received requested 12-Nov 312 74 2111 not received requested 12-Nov 313 74 1801 not received requested 12-Nov 314 74 1813 not received requested 12-Nov 305 74 2124 - 16610 blocks : 170 drops at LOS. 312 46 1149 - No data : The support did not take place due to an antenna failure at DSS46. We received the following message this morning (Nov. 15). "THE FOLLOWING SOLAR-A ORBITS WERE NOT SCHEDULED AT SANTIAGO: 4366, 4369 AND 4381." However, "WPS 7-Day operations schedule" includes these three passes and we issued OPs expecting that the data are to be received by Santiago. We might have lost these data. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In Week 46, 16 KSC contacts will be lost, 11 to ASCA and 5 to HALCA In Week 47, 14 KSC contacts will be lost, 7 to ASCA, 2 to HALCA and 5 to AKEBONO ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for Week 47 SSOC: Sawa, Hata(19-), Matsuzaki KSC: T. Morimoto(-19), Haga 7.2 STT Timer Setting The next STT TIMER SET is due on Wednesday 17-Nov-99, Pass 2 15:40:00 (UT). 7.3 Holiday Schedule Next Yohkoh holiday will be Sunday, 21-Nov-99 (JST). 7.4 OP_FIRST_GUESS Problem OP_FIRST_GUESS printed "Night" instead of "Day" (as it should have printed) on pass sheets for 1999/11/15 Pass 5(991115-1341). 7.5 OP_FIRST_GUESS Problem During the preparation of the 991115-1031 OP, OP_FIRST_GUESS inserted a QUIET RATE HIGH command during an SAA passage at a time when about 20 minutes of daylight remained. The maximum duration of QUIET RATE HIGH mode during an SAA in daylight should be 10 minutes. 7.6 OP_FIRST_GUESS Problem During the preparation of 991109-1238 OP,991110-1135 OP and 991111-1032 OP OP_FIRST_GUESS crashed with the message "OP_START_END: problem with detection of LOS/AOS/DSN Repro events". This problem was solved by changing OP_FIRST_GUESS options: choose optimization 1 rather than 2. All these 3 problems above (item 7.4,7.5 and 7.6) were occured also on last week(w45). 7.7 The Forecast Schedule for week 48 was not prepared by Wallops yet. It has to be done by Tohbans of week 47. 7.8 Some files in flare20:~yohkoh/ were deleted by mistake. I cannot tell how many files were deleted but I don't think so many and, maybe, there is not so bad effect for operation. 7.9 Wallops sent launches and testing information as follows. Pegasus (Wallops) Nov 30 (334) Fly-In 1600-2200z (approximately) Helios/Ariane Dress Rehearsal (WPS/WGS/PKR/AGS) Nov 30 1000-1700z (approx) Ariane/Helios1B Dec 3 (337) WOTS/WGS/AGS/PFRR T-0 1642 AM1 Dec 3 (337) SGS/AGS Pegasus Launch (Wallops) (WPS/WGS) Dec 4 (338) T-0 1851z (approx) 338/1230-1900gmt Jawsat/Minotaur Launch (MGS) NET Dec 16 (350) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Unchanged Hikitsugi Items from Last Week 8.1 Weekend Terminators If possible, please schedule terminator opportunities on any weekend table (i.e., if room permits). 8.2 Keeping Santiago contacts Currently, ASCA conflicts cause the loss of about 10 KSC contacts per week. We do not know which contacts Yohkoh will lose until the weekly meeting. Santiago contacts occur on the same orbits as KSC contacts. Therefore, please keep as many Santiago contacts as possible in the DSN Strawman and Preliminary Forecasts. 8.3 OP and Real-time Command Glossary We need a shorthand glossary for common OP and command-sheet commands. This already exists pretty much in the Sakao-san manual in Japanese, and the Week 26 tohbans started accumulating an English version on "yohkoh.glossary" 8.4 Software Problems pr_gev with /hc keyword produces a temporary output file but does not print it at the printer. 8.5 OP_FIRST_GUESS problem (w38) In a situation with two KSC cancellations on each of two days (a rare condition) the BDR optimization feature of OP_FIRST_GUESS crashed. After experimentation, we found that it ran OK without the final cancellation request (two the first day, but just the first one on the second day). The second one then had to be removed manually. Records of the problem were forwarded to Lemen-san, but no answer had arrived at the time of writing. 8.6 Keeping Wallops contacts (w42) This is not a new policy, but to emphasize (paraphrased from e-mail from Hugh Hudson): We should keep all valid Wallops passes, independent of day/night status, in order to maximize our Wallops use and minimize our DSN use. NASA won't give us many DSN passes anyway, so if we select a Goldstone pass in preference to a Wallops one, we'll normally just lose both. Another reason is that CANCEL_DSN software needs some repair, since it seems to replace the DSS identifier WGS with 0. This is likely to cause confusion, but of course if we don't cancel Wallops passes we won't have this problem often. 8.7 OP_FIRST_GUESS problem (w42) In one instance, op_first_guess produced a nested RB HV RDCT ON/ RB HV RDCT OFF sequence (i.e. ON-ON-OFF-OFF). This problem is easily spotted, and corrected by deleting the second ON command and the first OFF command manually. The bug has been reported to J. Lemen. 8.8 Tohban Manual (w42) The English-language version of the Tohban Manual has been updated recently and should be considered authoritative. The corresponding checksheet is also new (August 1999). 8.9 A New Antenna System in Wallops (w43) Since October 1, a new antenna GN-WGS is used instead of a 9m antenna DSS-76 in Wallops station. SSOC tohbans should not be surprised at the unfamiliar antenna code GN-WGS in the DSN schedules. This new code GN-WGS is replaced with DSS-80 in solass.w## and solsf.w## by the program "fmt_wallops". But some programs for the strawman scheduling replace it with DSS-0. === END ===
