SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN 20 March 1995 M. Weber SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 12 (19 Mar - 25 Mar 1995 JST) There are no coordinated campaigns planned for this week. The observing objectives of this plan are: - Standard observing table for most of the week. - Dark Calibration on Wednesday. - Continuation of terminator-offpointing campaign. The SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID Comments _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday (03/20) 21:44 4 950320 P4 ARS1 STD+OFF Tuesday (03/21) 18:37 2 950321 P2 ARS1 STD+OFF Wednesday (03/22) 20:40 4 950322 P4 ARS1 DARKCAL Thursday (03/23) 17:33 2 950323 P2 ARS1 STD+OFF Friday (03/24) 16:10 2 950324 P2 ARS1 STD+OFF Saturday (03/25) 18:12 3 950325 P3 ARS1 STD+OFF Terminator-Offpointing: The terminator-offpointing endeavor will continue this week. The SSOC tohbans may be required to put OG decimal numbers into the terminator commands for the OP tables. Filter selection can be done by the Chief Observer in the SXT Tables. This table plan is subject to change. -------------------------------------------- SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for w11-- 13-Mar-95 to 19-Mar-95 SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS Generally in fine working order. SXT ERRORS On Monday an SXT error occurred. The recovery plan was not successfully implemented until Tuesday night, so the Monday SXT DARKCAL Table was never uploaded. The Chief Observer was kept informed on the situation. Wednesday the DARKCAL Table was successfully uploaded. However, there is a data gap for the time that SXT was in error mode. CAMPAIGNS (1.) FILAMENT OBSERVATION, K. REARDON As already mentioned, an SXT error caused us to have a data gap from Sunday to Tuesday. Furthermore, this error occurred coming off of a Yohkoh holiday. Since DSN data for the weekend was not available yet, the SXT Chief Observer found himself without any recent data. The planned filament observation would've involved fixed pointing, which is dangerous to do when one hasn't seen the sun for a few days. The Chief Observer decided to not pursue filament observations at this time. Reardon san was notified. (2.) VLA: X-RAY BRIGHT POINT OBSERVATION, N. NITTA Nitta san procured the use of the VLA for observing X-ray bright points. His observation window was (15:00 UT 17-Mar-95) to (00:00 UT 18-Mar-95). SXT Table (950317 P2 ARS1 VLA-XBP) was uploaded to assist with this campaign. A 3x3 FR PFI was set to observe a large region around whatever bright area attracted the ARS1 mode. We hoped to see X-ray bright points in this area. At the time the Chief Observer prepared the SXT Table, AR7854 was the only active region visible, but soon after, a new active region came over the limb and captured the ARS1 patrol. We await the DSN data to see how successful we were. (3.) TERMINATOR OFFPOINTING CAMPAIGN, L. ACTON Acton san, Hudson san, and Chief Observer Weber are currently working on the software for this campaign. Our goal is to make the process as simple and transparent for both tohbans and future Chief Observers as possible. Acton san has chosen our first 7 pointing targets. This past week we started taking terminators at one of the pointings with the different thin filters. Our plan is to cycle quickly through the pointings, with a sub-cycle of filter selections. This plan is designed to minimize work for the tohbans. QUESTION There are two batch jobs on the FACOM mainframe called SR00012 and SR00015, which can be seen with the "st(atus)" command. The Chief Observer cannot delete these jobs with PFD 3.8. I suspect these jobs appeared when Kano san was trying to solve the SXT Table Mismatch Error of March 7. Are these jobs really there, and how can they be eliminated? A. Sakao san said he would attempt to get rid of these files.
