Lemen SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 17 (24 Apr - 1 May 1995 JST) The XBP campaign is supposed to continue this week during 23-26 April. We will have to review the solar activity before deciding when to start. However, the region on the west limb that is producing the flares should be over the limb in another day or so. The observing objectives of this plan are: - Standard observing table for most of the week. - Dark Calibration on Wednesday. - Continuation of terminator-offpointing campaign. Could the SSOC tohbans please fax the OP list each day to D-tou so that the Chief Observer can track the terminators. Some changes to this plan are likely. The Tohbans should make sure to check the faxes from the Chief Observer. The SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID Comments _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday ************** NO TABLE UPLOAD ********************* Tuesday (25-Apr-95) 05:57 4 950424 P4 ARS1 DKCAL Tuesday (25-Apr-95) 23:26 1 950425 P1 ARS0 XBP PFI Wednesday (26-Apr-95) 04:34 4 950425 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG Thursday (27-Apr-95) 01:27 2 950426 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Friday (28-Apr-95) 00:04 2 950427 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Saturday (29-Apr-95) 02:06 3 950428 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG Terminator-Offpointing: The terminator-offpointing program will continue this week. The SSOC tohbans will be required to manually insert the off-point OGs for the terminators in the OP tables. The Chief Observer can instruct the new tohbans about how to schedule the offpoints. NOTE: This table plan is subject to change. If the XBP campaign goes ahead as scheduled, the KSC tohbans will be asked to transfer from the SSOC to KSC the 2nd SXT table on Wednesday. SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 16: 17-Apr-95 to 23-Apr-95 This was a smooth week operationally. The HRTS-IX rocket flight went as scheduled. The Yohkoh data has not been reviewed yet. The bright-point campaign was not accomplished last week because of the level solar activity. There was a C flare on 21-Apr-95 and on 22-Apr-95 there were 3 M flares! From the light curve one looks like it was an M8. Unfortunately, the three M flares either occurred at night or during an SAA. The second M flare that occurred at about 18:00 UT and there is a report of a CME at this time as well. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS The SXT instrument is in fine working order. CAMPAIGNS TERMINATOR OFFPOINTING CAMPAIGN We have reviewed the off-point terminators. For various reasons, we have not acquired many terminators at certain locations. The SSOC Tohbans should please continue to cycle through the five off-point OGs: OG34, OG35, OG36, OG85, and OG86. Please do not use OG33 or OG87 until further notice. X-RAY BRIGHT POINTS Karen Harvey has purposed a XBP observing campaign for 23-26 April. However, because of the solar activity, and because we only have two KSC contacts on 26 Apr 1995 (UT), the only possible day for the bright-point campaign is 24 April (UT). We will review the solar activity before deciding to proceed with the observations. FILAMENT WATCH Depending on solar conditions, we may schedule a filament watch campaign with Mees. Tom Metcalf is the Mees Chief Observer this week. UPCOMING SERTS FLIGHT The SERTS rocket will be launched on 15 May 1995 at about 18:00 UT. Joe Davila leads the effort. They will target the North coronal hole because of the opportunity to observe jointly with Ulysses. See http://serts.nascom.nasa.gov for full details.
