15 May 1995 L. Acton SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 20 (14-MAY-95 to 20-MAY-95 UT) Solar activity remains beteewn A and B level with the brightest x-ray feature the small region AR7870. On Monday SXT will support the SERTS rocket launch, scheduled for 15-MAY-95 18:00 UT, with the ARS1 STD+LONG table. Next week we should be able to resume the filament watch campaign after the present regions rotate behind the west limb. If the regions are bright enough at the limb we may do some offpoint observing although lost KSC passes make this difficult. This plan will be modified if the solar activity level changes. The observing objectives of this plan are: - Support the SERTS rocket shot. - Dark Calibration on WEDNESDAY. - Continuation of terminator-offpointing campaign. The SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NAME PART OF THE TABLE ID MAY CHANGE IF SOLAR CONDITIONS CHANGE. THE TABLE ID GIVEN IN THE FAX IS THE ID TO CHECK AGAINST THE UPLOAD FILE. The SSOC tohbans will be required to manually insert the off-point OGs for the terminators in the OP tables. The SSOC tohbans please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can designate the offpoints. The final OP list should also be faxed to D-tou for record keeping. SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 19: 7-MAY-95 to 13-MAY-95 This week I tried to observe AR7869/7860 as well as possible. A large OP (4x3) was used early in the week. This was changed to 1x1 when AR7870 became active. I tried to adjust the AEC starting exposure to minimize the number of wasted images at the beginning of the orbit -- only partly successful. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS The SXT instrument is in fine working order. Analysis of straylight correction images continued and a report was put on SHOW_PIX. There is more dispersion in AlMG straylight (about +/- 20%) than I expected. This is not a big problem as the AlMg straylight is small. Analysis of other filters has not been done yet. I also began an analysis of the number of straylight images for each filter combination as a function of pointing. Here is a table of the results of that analysis for all terminator images taken since 15-NOV-92 when the entrance filter failed. Terminator Information for SXT. In the meantime we will continue to cycle through the present OG list -- many of which have not yet been sucessful. CAMPAIGNS FILAMENT WATCH -- on hold. SERTS FLIGHT -- today, see SXT Table Plan.
