11 September 1995 N. Nitta SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 36: 04-SEP-95 to 10-SEP-95 SPARTAN was deployed on 8 September at 15:42 UT. Earlier in the week, we took W and SE offpoint terminator images, because streamers in those directions were to be observed, according to the SPARTAN observing sequences that had been disclosed before. However, the launch was further slipped, and it was only Wednesday night that we were notified that the SE sequence was dropped. In short, SPARTAN is supposed to observe (1) Western Streamer Belt, (2) North Coronal Hole (W), (3) Northeast Streamer, and (4) North Coronal Hole (E). The SPARTAN observation ends ~16 hrs before the Monday ops meeting. SOLAR ACTIVITY Considering the recent trend, the solar activity of week 36 was not particularly low, since the GOES 1-8 A light curve hit the C level once (on 5 September) and AR 7904 showed frequent brightenings at the western limb. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS The SXT has been working without problem. The straylight level appears to be stable after 16 August. CAMPAIGNS We had to postpone two campaigns ("filament" in coordination with Mees and "polar rays" proposed by Kouchmy and Hara) because of preparation for SPARTAN. SEMINARS On 6 September, the regular Yohkoh seminar series resumed. The speaker was Ron Moore (NASA-MSFC), and the title was "Sheared Core Magnetic Fields, Flares, and Coronal Heating." SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 37 (11-SEP-95 to 17-SEP-95) This weekend we will start another XBP campaign in coordination with Kitt Peak. Until then we may spend some time hunting filaments instrcuted by Mees or looking at the north pole region for polar rays. In summary, we will do - Dark calibration on Monday. - Filament (or polar ray) campaign between Tuesday and Thursday. - Table holiday on Friday (only two passes available). - XBP observing on Saturday. The SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID Comments _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday 11-Sep-95 07:07 2 950910 P2 ARS1 DARKCAL Tuesday 12-Sep-95 07:27 2 950911 P2 ARS0 FILAMENT Tuesday 12-Sep-95 10:52 4 950911 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG Wednesday 13-Sep-95 04:23 1 950912 P1 ARS1 FILAMENT Wednesday 13-Sep-95 07:46 3 950912 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG Thursday 14-Sep-95 04:41 1 950913 P1 ARS1 FILAMENT Thursday 14-Sep-95 08:05 3 950913 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG Saturday 16-Sep-95 03:37 1 950915 P1 ARS0 SPARTAN-B Saturday 16-Dep-95 08:44 4 950915 P4 ARS0 XBP CAMP /// KSC and SSOC TOHBAN PLEASE NOTE: \\\ \\\ THIS TABLE PLAN IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. /// Terminator-Offpointing: We plan to do offpoint observations regularly. So offpoint terminator images have to be taken as before. We continue to ask SSOC tohbans to manually insert the off-point OGs for the terminators in the OP tables. SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to be used. Dumping Patrol images: We request that KSC tohban continue to dump a patrol image each time an SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters for an awfully quiet period.
