24 September 1995 N. Nitta SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 38: 18-SEP-95 to 24-SEP-95 We continued the X-ray Bright Point Campaign. Three areas in the northern hemisphere were observed with 4(EW)x1(NS) mosaic PFIs. We saw more filaments on H-alpha images toward the end of the week. The last XBP target was chosen so that we could also observe a filament. H-alpha daily images show that part of the filament disappeared. Indeed, the SXT images showed some structural changes in the filament. However, according to Nitta-san, no corresponding change was noticed at Mees. SOLAR ACTIVITY AR 7907 was quite active, producing large (C-class !!) flares. A B-class event accompanied a type II burst (a report from Australia). It is still repeating short-lived B-class flares and minor brightenings. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS The SXT was in fine working order. CAMPAIGNS Most visible orbits during the week were spent observing XBPs, a campaign led by Karen Harvey. In addition to the usual long strips of partial frame images, we also took some very deep exposured full disk images to see if the number of identifiable XBPs increases. SEMINARS There was a Yohkoh seminar on Wednesday, 20 September. The speakers and titles were: Hugh Hudson: "Is the `Superhot' property of a flare really something new and different?" and Tetsuya Watanabe: "The maximum temperatures of solar flare plasmas". Unfortunately, not many people came from outside ISAS. SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 39 (25-SEP-95 to 1-OCT-95) This week will be not as hectic as last week, because no campaign is planned. There is 1-2 day gap between me and Jim Lemen, whose first day at ISAS will be Wednesday. He may add more table uploads. The SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID Comments _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Thursday 28-Sep-95 00:36 3 950927 P3 ARS1 DARKCAL Friday 29-Sep-95 00:55 3 950928 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG Friday 29-Sep-95 23:31 2 950929 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Saturday 30-Sep-95 22:08 2 950930 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG /// KSC and SSOC TOHBAN PLEASE NOTE: \\\ \\\ THIS TABLE PLAN IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. /// Terminator-Offpointing: We plan to do offpoint observations regularly. So offpoint terminator images have to be taken as before. We continue to ask SSOC tohbans to manually insert the off-point OG's for the terminators in the OP tables. SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to be used. Please do not insert an OP for the teminator of 27-Sep-95 05:38:07 (normal point). Dumping Patrol images: We request that KSC tohban continue to dump a patrol image each time an SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters for an awfully quiet period.
