2 October 1995 J. R. Lemen SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 39: 25-SEP-95 to 1-Oct-95 This was a relatively simple week, operationally, for SXT. Nariaki Nitta completed his duties as SXT Chief Observer and departed for California. SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity was relatively low for the entire week. There was a B9.3 flare on 25-Sep-95, but the rise phase and peak occurred during Yohkoh night. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS The SXT was in fine working order. CAMPAIGNS There were no campaigns this week. Since Mees was down for maintenance last week, there were no specific filament watch campaigns. SEMINARS There was no Yohkoh seminar this week. Serge Savy arrived at ISAS and has joined the SXT team. Serge will reside at ISAS and is already beginning to learn how to be an SXT Chief Observer. Serge did his post-graduate work at MSSL with Prof Len Culhane. Serge is in the process of finishing his Ph.D. thesis which he will defend early next year. SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 40 (2-Oct-95 to 7-OCT-95) Our plan this week will be to mainly do SXT table uploads to cycle through the terminator images. Please assume that we will do these in the normal pointing position unless otherwise noted. The SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID Comments _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday 2-Oct-95 22:46 3 951002 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG Tuesday 3-Oct-95 21:22 2 951003 P2 ARS1 DKCAL Wednesday 4-Oct-95 19:58 2 951004 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Thursday 5-Oct-95 20:17 2 951005 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Friday 6-Oct-95 20:37 3 951006 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG /// KSC and SSOC TOHBAN PLEASE NOTE: \\\ \\\ THIS TABLE PLAN IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. /// No table load is planned for Saturday, since there are only two KSC contacts. However, we may request a table load if solar conditions warrant a new observing sequence. Terminator-Offpointing: We plan to do offpoint observations regularly. So offpoint terminator images have to be taken as before. We continue to ask SSOC tohbans to manually insert the off-point OG's for the terminators in the OP tables. SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to be used. Dumping Patrol images: We request that KSC tohban continue to dump a patrol image each time an SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters for an awfully quiet period.
