13 November 1995 L. Acton SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 45: 5-NOV-95 to 11-NOV-95 This week L. Acton served as SXT Chief Observer. It is always a challenge to do this complicated job after having been away for several months! SOLAR ACTIVITY The week began with some lovely post-flare loops on the east limb from AR7921. This region produced numerous B-level flares on 6-November. During the middle of the week the sun was fairly quiet with several small regions but little flaring. On 9-Nov activity in AR921 picked up once again and on 10-Nov-95 a C2 LDE flare was observed from this region. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS There have been no anomalies in SXT performance. The SXT continues to produce superb solar images even though the GOES signal is at or below the A level. Acton and Savy have concentrated on improving the software for planning terminator observations and defining a set of new OG commands for filling in some gaps in our SFC data base. This list of OGs is appended to the SXT Table Plan for week 95_46. They should be prepared by the SSOC toban and uploaded as soon as possible. We plan to do a CCD bakeout during week 47. CAMPAIGNS No campaigns in week 45. During week 46 we plan an unofficial campaign to obtain deep pfi exposures of the quiet corona near disk center on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday we will attempt 2 visible orbits each day of PFI-dominant observations to obtain observations of an actve region with 2 second time resolution in a single filter. These data will be used by David McKenzie of U. Delaware for investigation of wave heating of AR loops as part of his PhD thesis research. This campaign will be postponed if there is no appropriate AR on the disk at the time. SEMINARS There was a very interesting seminar on the solar dynamo by Ed DeLuca this week. SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 46 (12-NOV-95 to 18-NOV-95) This week we request preparation and upload of new offpoint OG files for the terminator program. We plan DKCAL on Tuesday, quiet corona observations on Wednesday and PFI dominant observations using ARS2 on Thursday and Friday.
