10 December 1995 Serge Savy/Hugh Hudson SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 49: 4-DEC-95 to 10-DEC-95 SOLAR ACTIVITY The Sun was quiet this week with no major flares observed by Yohkoh. For most of the week there was only one small active region (AR 7930) on the disc. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS An SXT Bitmap Error was found during pass 1 on 06-Dec-95 (Wed) and was recovered during the same pass with Yobi C. Except for that error, SXT has been functioning normally. CAMPAIGNS We started the week with quiet corona observations on Monday (4 December). Deep PFI images near disc centre were recorded. On Thursday the standard table was loaded with the flare mode tables set to record PFIs in only one filter. The purpose is to obtain high time cadence observations of any flares that may occur in the near future (Hudson). SEMINARS There was a regular Yohkoh seminar on Wednesday. The speaker was K. Yaji (GUAS/NAO) and the title was "Microwave and X-ray Sources at the Looptop in Solar Flares" SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 50 (11-DEC-95 to 17-DEC-95) There will be no official campaigns this week but on Monday we will obtain deep PFI exposures of the quiet corona near disc centre unless there is a very bright region. This table will nominally run for two orbits, but we may leave it in overnight if conditions on pass #1 warrant. We tentatively plan the same activity for Thursday and Friday. There will be a DKCAL table loaded on Tuesday. Standard diffuser images (both low8 and compressed) will be taken on Thursday during routine operations. This week we continue with the terminator program, but we will not need new OG's to be written this week as terminators at some of last weeks offpoint positions still need to be taken. The provisional SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday 11-DEC-95 12:55 2 951211 P2 ARS0 QUIET CORON Monday 11-DEC-95 16:22 4 951211 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG Tuesday 12-DEC-95 11:32 2 951212 P2 ARS1 DKCAL Wednesday 13-DEC-95 13:34 3 951213 P3 ARS1 QUIET CORON Thursday 14-DEC-95 10:27 2 951214 P2 ARS0 QUIET COR D Thursday 14-DEC-95 13:53 4 951214 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG Friday 15-DEC-95 10:46 2 951215 P2 ARS0 QUIET CORON Friday 15-DEC-95 14:12 4 951215 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG Saturday 16-DEC-95 09:22 2 951216 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to use. Dumping Patrol images: We request that KSC tohban continue to dump a patrol image each time an SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters for an awfully quiet period.
