17 December 1995 Serge Savy/Hugh Hudson SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 50: 10-DEC-95 to 17-DEC-95 SOLAR ACTIVITY The Sun was quiet this week with no major flares observed by Yohkoh. For most of the week there was only one small active region (AR 7930) on the disc. It parted with us from the W limb on Dec. 16, leaving a vacuum whose extent we can't discern because of the computer outage over the weekend. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS Bitmap Errors occurred, two in one day (16 Dec; a record?). Otherwise all was normal and nothing interfered with observations. CAMPAIGNS No formal campaigns happened. SXT took some deep exposures in PFI's both of the quiet corona and also of a filament. The latter disappeared around 15 Dec. but we missed the event in the PFIs. SEMINARS There was a regular Yohkoh seminar on Wednesday. The speaker was W.Q. Gan (Purple Mountain Obs.) on the subject "Solar flares from low to high temperatures". SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 51 (18-DEC-95 to 25-DEC-95) We will start the week with a DKCAL table. On Tuesday and Wednesday special tables for measurement of the variation of stray-light over an orbit will be loaded (Acton). These tables will record 1x8 PFIs at disk centre, and will run for 2 visible orbits only. For the rest of the week we will continue with our deep PFI exposures of the quiet corona which will be located at disc centre or on a filament. With activity so low we plan to run these tables overnight, unless solar conditions dictate otherwise. The standard FFI diffuser images (both low8 and compressed) will be taken on Tuesday during the special stray-light observations. On Saturday we will return to a standard table. This week we continue with the terminator program, and would like the SSOC Tohbans to prepare the OGs listed below as soon as possible so that terminator images can be taken at those offpoint positions. The provisional SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday 18-DEC-95 11:44 3 951218 P3 ARS1 DKCAL Tuesday 19-DEC-95 08:36 2 951219 P2 ARS0 STRAY+DIFFU Tuesday 19-DEC-95 12:03 4 951219 P4 ARS0 QUIET CORON Wednesday 20-DEC-95 07:12 2 951220 P2 ARS0 STRAYLIGHT Wednesday 20-DEC-95 10:39 4 951220 P4 ARS0 QUIET CORON Thursday 21-DEC-95 09:15 3 951221 P3 ARS0 QUIET CORON Friday 22-DEC-95 09:34 3 951222 P3 ARS0 QUIET CORON Saturday 23-DEC-95 09:53 3 951223 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG *** Please note that this table plan may change *** Dumping Patrol images: We request that KSC tohban continue to dump a patrol image each time an SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters for an awfully quiet period. SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to use. PREPARATION OF OGs: SSOC TOHBAN, please prepare the following OGs as soon as possible. Fax a printout of the prepared OGs to D-Toh so that the Chief Observer can check them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ OG 33: TARGET ANGLE-X -0.0703232 (DEG) TARGET ANGLE-Y 0.0299418 (DEG) BLOCK COMMAND ===> 81 00 FB 07 01 F4 00 00 0.539272 -0.100149 COMMAND NAME: S/C W.100 S.539 (offset angles in arcmin) ----- OG EDITOR OUTPUT --------------- NUMBER : 33 NAME : S/C W.100 S.539 1 04-DC-8A ACS: ACP DATA SET+B7 2 04-BC-81 ACS: BC 3 04-BC-FB ACS: BC 4 04-BC-07 ACS: BC 5 04-BC-01 ACS: BC 6 04-BC-F4 ACS: BC 7 04-BC-00 ACS: BC 8 04-BC-00 ACS: BC 9 04-DC-11 ACS: BC EXEC +++ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OG 34: TARGET ANGLE-X -0.0734119 (DEG) TARGET ANGLE-Y 0.0313014 (DEG) BLOCK COMMAND ===> 81 00 FA CF 02 0D 00 00 0.353950 -0.0185774 COMMAND NAME: S/C W.018 S.353 (offset angles in arcmin) ----- OG EDITOR OUTPUT --------------- NUMBER : 34 NAME : S/C W.018 S.353 1 04-DC-8A ACS: ACP DATA SET+B7 2 04-BC-81 ACS: BC 3 04-BC-FA ACS: BC 4 04-BC-CF ACS: BC 5 04-BC-02 ACS: BC 6 04-BC-0D ACS: BC 7 04-BC-00 ACS: BC 8 04-BC-00 ACS: BC 9 04-DC-11 ACS: BC EXEC +++ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- OG 35: TARGET ANGLE-X -0.0783359 (DEG) TARGET ANGLE-Y 0.0308794 (DEG) BLOCK COMMAND ===> 81 00 FA 76 02 05 00 00 0.0585110 -0.0438939 COMMAND NAME: S/C W.043 S.058 (offset angles in arcmin) ----- OG EDITOR OUTPUT --------------- NUMBER : 35 NAME : S/C W.043 S.058 1 04-DC-8A ACS: ACP DATA SET+B7 2 04-BC-81 ACS: BC 3 04-BC-FA ACS: BC 4 04-BC-76 ACS: BC 5 04-BC-02 ACS: BC 6 04-BC-05 ACS: BC 7 04-BC-00 ACS: BC 8 04-BC-00 ACS: BC 9 04-DC-11 ACS: BC EXEC +++ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
