22 January 1995 James Lemen SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 03: 15-JAN-96 to 21-JAN-96 SOLAR ACTIVITY The Sun was quiet all last week with no major flares or active regions. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS No significant SXT errors occurred. SXT continues to function normally. CAMPAIGNS The Flare Genesis balloon campaign continued until 21 January. There has been no communication with the group this week, since the balloon team has decided to study Sun center following the failure of the balloon's high-gain antenna. As a result, the balloon payload pointing has been set for Sun center. Since the Sun is very quiet, the SXT has also been trained on Sun Center during the week looking at the occasional bright point. We will resume filament campaigns when a suitable target emerges. SEMINARS On Wednesday 17 January there was a Yohkoh seminar. The speakers were H. Hudson (ISAS) and R. Schwartz (GSFC) who reviewed the recent Markus Aschwanden papers that studied the timing of X-ray bursts using Batse data for eight events studied by Sakao san in his thesis. SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 04 (22-JAN-96 to 29-Jan-96) We will start the week with a DKCAL table. On Tuesday we will do a 24- hour CCD bakeout. Later in the week, we will make PFI observations at the north polar limb with full-resolution. This will correspond to one part of the Mees cardinal stripes program. We will plan north polar-limb observations until either a suitable filament or active region emerges. The standard FFI diffuser images (both low8 and compressed) will be taken on Thursday as part of a standard table. This week we continue with the terminator program, but no new OG's need to be prepared. The provisional SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday 22-JAN-96 18:03 3 960122 P3 ARS0 DKCAL Tuesday 23-JAN-96 16:39 2 960123 P2 ARS0 CCD BAKE Wednesday 24-JAN-96 18:42 4 960124 P4 ARS0 NOR CARD Thursday 25-JAN-96 17:17 3 960125 P3 ARS0 DIFF+CARD Friday 26-JAN-96 15:53 3 960126 P3 ARS0 NOR CARD Saturday 27-JAN-96 16:12 3 960127 P3 ARS0 NOR CARD *** Please note that this table plan may change *** Procedure for CCD bakeout: Here is how the CCD bakeout is executed by the KSC toban. Last bakeout was 22-23 November 1995. Tuesday (23-Jan-96) Pass 2 Upload table for CCD bakeout. Pass 3 TEC Off, confirm temperature increase. Pass 4 Heater on, confirm further temperature incerease. Wednesday (24-Jan-96) Pass 2 Heater off, confirm temperature decrease. Pass 3 TEC on, confirm further temperature decrease. Pass 4 Upload standard table. Dumping Patrol images: We request that KSC tohban continue to dump a patrol image each time an SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters for an awfully quiet period. SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to use.
