6 April 1996 Serge Savy SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 14: 1-APR-96 to 7-APR-96 SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity increased this week with the appearance of AR7955, but there were no major flares. AR7955 was the focus of our observations for most of the week, until 6 April when we switched to fixed pointing near disc centre for the bright point campaign. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS SXT was completely operational with no errors. CAMPAIGNS This week we started an X-ray bright point campaign instigated by Karen Harvey and in collaboration with SOHO and ground based observers. All the SOHO imaging instruments are involved in this campaign, which is due to end 11 April. SEMINARS Week 14 seminar was by Y. Yan (Beijing Astronomical Observatory) on "The Extrapolated Force-Free Magnetic Fields and their Associations with Yohkoh Soft X-ray Observations". SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 15 (8-Apr-96 to 14-Apr-96) This week we continue with the X-ray bright point campaign with Karen Harvey, SOHO and ground observers until April 11. The plan is to continue using a fixed pointing table recording 1x3 images near disc centre. The target region for the PFIs is : Target: Heliographic N3.4, E0.8 (epoch 3-Apr-96 03:13) Angular -13.9, 160.7 (arc sec E, N relative to Sun center) The dark calibration table will be loaded on Tuesday, and the weekly diffuser images included as part of the bright point campaign table on Wednesday. The standard table will be uploaded for the weekend. The provisional SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday 8-Apr-96 No table load Tuesday 9-Apr-96 03:43 2 960408 P2 ARS0 XBP+DKCAL Wednesday 10-Apr-96 02:19 2 960409 P2 ARS0 XBP+DIFFU Thursday 11-Apr-96 06:05 4 960410 P4 ARS0 XBP+LONG Friday 12-Apr-96 02:57 2 960411 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Saturday 13-Apr-96 03:16 3 960412 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG *** Please note that this table plan may change *** Dumping Patrol images: We request that KSC tohban continue to dump a patrol image each time an SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters for an awfully quiet period. SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to use. PREPARATION OF OGs: No new OGs need to be made this week. We will continue to use the OGs generated last week.
