15 April 1996 Serge Savy SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 15: 8-APR-96 to 15-APR-96 SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity was low, with no flares, but several tiny active regions and much structure visible in the diffuse corona. AR7956 was the focus of SXT observations over the weekend. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS SXT was completely operational with no errors. CAMPAIGNS Five days this week were devoted to the X-ray bright point campaign coordinated by Karen Harvey and in collaboration with SOHO and ground based observers. We concentrated on observations near disc centre, and saw several nice XBPs and one small but dynamic active region. The campaign has been extended until the 15th, with continued SoHO participation and the VLA now involved. SEMINARS The seminar for week 14 seminar was by F. Farnik (Ondrejov, Czech / ISAS) on " Two examples of SXT data analysis - large coronal structures seen in full disk images and relation between preflares and flares as seen in partial frame images ". SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 16 (16-Apr-96 to 22-Apr-96) The week X-ray bright point campaign with Karen Harvey, SOHO and ground observers has been extended until April 15. The plan is to continue using a fixed pointing table recording 1x3 images near disc centre. The target region for the PFIs is: Target: Heliographic N7.0, W0.3 (epoch 4-APR-96 17:11 UT) Angular 0.00 208.7 (arc sec E, N relative to Sun centre) The small active region NOAA 7965 will be within our FOV for the 14th and 15th April. There will be two partial eclipses on 17-April, one at 22:02 UT, and the other at 23:30 UT, both lasting about 18 minutes each. Yohkoh and SXT will be setup to obtain data during both occultations. No off-pointing is planned. The dark calibration table will be loaded on Tuesday, and the weekly diffuser images included as part of a standard table on Wednesday. The standard table will be uploaded for the weekend. The provisional SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday 15-APR-96 02:11 3 960414 P3 ARS0 XBP+LONG Tuesday 16-APR-96 02:31 3 960415 P3 ARS0 XBP+DKCAL Wednesday 17-APR-96 01:06 3 960416 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG Thursday 18-APR-96 01:26 3 960417 P3 ARS0 ECLIPSE Friday 18-APR-96 22:19 2 960418 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Saturday 20-APR-96 02:04 4 960419 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG Sunday 21-APR-96 No table load *** Please note that this table plan may change *** Dumping Patrol images: We request that KSC tohban continue to dump a patrol image each time an SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters for an awfully quiet period. SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to use. PREPARATION OF OGs: No new OGs need to be made this week. We will continue to use the OGs generated last week.
