SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 17:   22-APR-96 to 28-APR-96

SOLAR ACTIVITY

Several flares occurred last week on 22 April. There were three C-class
events between 02:00 and 04:00 UT, and an M4 flare at 04:40 UT that day.
SXT observed the M class flare which turned out to be a rather compact
event. After 24 April solar activity returned to a very low level.

SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS

SXT was completely operational with no errors.

CAMPAIGNS

No campaigns in week 17.

SEMINARS

The seminar for week 17 was by K. Harvey (SPRC) on
"Solar Magnetic Fields: A key to understanding Solar Irradiance".

There are no campaigns planned for this week.  The dark calibration table
will be loaded on Tuesday, and the weekly diffuser images included as part
of a standard table on Wednesday.

Dumping Patrol images:
   We request that KSC tohban continue to dump a patrol image each time an
SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters
for an awfully quiet period. 

  SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains
a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to use. 

  PREPARATION OF OGs: The following OGs need to be made this week, as soon
as possible.


Both of the following OGs are for use with the Open/Al.1 filter combination.
