19 May 1996 Serge Savy SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 20: 13-MAY-96 to 19-MAY-96 SOLAR ACTIVITY AR7962 quietened down last week, producing only 4 B-class events, although the region remained quite large in area. All our PFI observations this week targeted this region, the largest we have seen in recent months. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS No significant SXT errors last week. SXT has been operational with no problems. CAMPAIGNS Last week we started campaign with Jim Klimchuk, in collaboration with SoHO CDS and SUMER, to measure filling factors in coronal loops. Three special SXT tables were loaded, on three different days (13, 14, and 18 May) to observe AR7962. The last table was used over the weekend, for coordinated observations with CDS on Sunday 19 May. SEMINARS On Thursday, 16 May, there was a Yohkoh seminar given by Mukul Kundu. The title was "Solar Radio Astronomy at Metric Wavelengths: A Revisit by Yohkoh." SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 21 (19-May-96 to 25-May-96) Nariaki Nitta takes over as Chief Observer this week. First part of this week will be routine operations, but on Friday and Saturday we will have another campaign with SoHO and VLA (Markus Aschwanden, PI). The primary target will be a sunspot for which the height dependence of the coronal magnetic field is measured from combined data. In the absence of a sunspot there are two alternative plans, so the tables to be uploaded are not finalized at this time. The dark calibration table will be loaded on Tuesday, and the weekly diffuser images included as part of a standard table on Wednesday. The provisional SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday 20-MAY-96 08:30 2 960519 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Tuesday 21-MAY-96 10:30 4 960520 P4 ARS1 DKCAL Wednesday 22-MAY-96 10:50 4 960521 P4 ARS1 STD+DIFFU Thursday 23-MAY-96 09:25 4 960522 P4 ARS2 STD VLA Friday 24-MAY-96 09:45 4 960523 P4 ARS2 STD VLA Saturday 25-MAY-96 08:20 4 960524 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG *** Please note that this table plan may change *** Dumping Patrol images: We request that KSC tohban continue to dump a patrol image each time an SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters for an awfully quiet period. SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to use. PREPARATION OF OGs: No new OGs need to be made this week.
