SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 22:   27-MAY-96 to 2-JUN-96

SOLAR ACTIVITY

Solar activity continued to be extremely low.  Big Bear reported on
the fifth new cycle plage (with pores) since 10 May.


SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS 

The vertical streak reported last week is no longer visible and an 
analysis is under way by Hugh Hudson to characterize its behavior.  Apart 
from an SEU, SXT was in fine working order.



CAMPAIGNS

We switched to another X-ray bright point campaign with Karen Harvey and 
observed two regions specified by her.  


SEMINARS

On Thursday, 30 May, we had a regular Yohkoh seminar.  The speaker and
title were: N. Nitta, "Superhot flares: a comparison between imaging
and spectral observations."

The Schmieder campaigns start on Monday, and we intend to prepare for
this by doing the dark calibration table first. Then we will probably
load two tables each day, as circumstances permit, to follow the different
targets as coordinated with Meudon and SoHO. The table upload plan
may change as the campaign unfolds.

Dumping Patrol images:

   We request that KSC tohbans continue to dump a patrol image each time an
SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters
for an awfully, awfully quiet period. 

  SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains
a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to use. 

  PREPARATION OF OGs: New OGs were made last week, but no terminator images
have been taken since then.  We may change OGs this again this week.
