2 June 1996 Mark Weber Hugh Hudson SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 23: 3-JUN-96 to 9-JUN-96 SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity took an exciting turn this week as the X-ray flux baseline rose from sub-A levels to about A.3. From this beach-head, three or four B-class flares were launched on June 7, probably from NOAA AR 7968. However, compared to the rest of the solar cycle, solar activity is still considered very low. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS The SXT performed smoothly this week and is operating well. CAMPAIGNS From 2-June to 10-June, we are running a campaign with Meudon and SoHO/SUMER,CDS (correspondent Brigitte Schmieder) to observe (1) prom- inences and filaments, and (2) chromospheric activity and coronal loops. We also participated with George Fisher in a "micro-campaign" to observe AR 7968 in conjunction with the SUMER and CDS instruments. The project was brief (6-Jun 17:00 to 19:00 UT), but SXT obtained many fine PFIs. SEMINARS On Thursday, 6 June, Prof. B. Somov (currently visiting at Mitaka) gave a Yohkoh seminar entitled "Solar Physics at Moscow State University". SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 24 (10-Jun-96 to 16-Jun-96) The Schmieder campaign will end at the beginning of this week. We will do a fixed pointing at an active region on Monday to support this last day. A dark calibration table will be loaded on Tuesday, and a diffuser table on Thursday, unless opportunities suggest otherwise. The table plan may be altered to coordinate with SoHO targets if we can be of assistance. SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to use. PREPARATION OF OGs: New OGs were made last week, but no terminator images have been taken since then. We may change OGs this again this week.
