9 Sep 1996 Serge Savy SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 36: 2-Sep 96 to 8-Sep-96 SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity remained low, with only one B-class flare on 4 September. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS No significant problems. SXT continues to function well. CAMPAIGNS We finished the campaign to observe the large scale structure of the solar minimum corona with SoHO (JOP044). This campaign is coordinated by Sarah Gibson and Douglas Biesecker. Details on SoHO JOP 44 can be found at http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/operations/campaigns/soho/JOP044-199608.txt http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/operations/JOPs/jop044.html SEMINARS 5-Sep-96: D. Melrose (U. Sydney), "The role of large-scale currents in solar flares". This seminar presented one side of the debate with Parker regarding the interpretation of vector magnetographs, and also dealt with criticisms of the reconnection models for solar flares. SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 37 (9-Sep-96 to 15-Sep-96) The only campaign activity scheduled for this week is the VLA filament observation being planned by Gopalswamy (Maryland) and others. This takes place on 8-Sep (our holiday), 15-Sep (another holiday) and 17-Sep. Because of the holiday conflicts we don't plan any particular activity except to comment to Gopal about choice of target and hope for the best. A dark calibration table will be loaded on Tuesday, and the weekly diffusers included as part of a standard table on Wednesday. SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to use.
