18 October 1996 HSH, SKS SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT AND TABLE PLAN CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 42 14-Oct-96 to 18-Oct-96 SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity remained low, with GOES at the background level. The "last best old-cycle region" returned for its 5th passage, still large but mighty dim. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS No problems or significant errors last week. SXT continues to function well. CAMPAIGNS Efforts were made to find emerging flux, which might have led to a jet, which could be observed by SOHO with their JOP033. Nil results. SEMINARS Hongqi ZHANG (Beijing Astron. Obs.) "Observations of p-mode/s-mode conversion in magnetic fields and the absorption of p-modes by sunspots" SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 43 (21-Oct-96 to 26-Oct-92) This week we will be supporting SOHO JOP33 again, hoping to supply hot jet targets for SOHO. We will also continue (19-25 October) with coronal loop filling factors, a SOHO campaign organized by with Steve Klimchuk. The purpose of this campaign is to observe AR loops and polar plumes with CDS for filling-factor determinations. Yohkoh would provide key information on time variability of the CDS targets. A dark calibration table will be loaded on Tuesday, and the weekly diffusers included as part of a standard table on Wednesday.
