28 October 1996 LWA SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT AND TABLE PLAN CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 43 21-Oct-96 to 26-Oct-96 SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity began the week at the GOES a2 level but decreased during the week as the old active region continued to decay. However, the low x-ray signal does not mean that the corona was uninteresting! Events along the neutral line of the old region produced CMEs and the sun was covered with many bright points which produced numerous brightenings and jets. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS No problems or significant errors last week. SXT continues to function well. CAMPAIGNS Jet/XBP targets were suggested for SOHO JOP033. SEMINARS Te. Watanabe (NAO) "Energetics of a solar active region." PLAN FOR WEEK 44 Campaigns: SoHO JOP3 (CMEs) all week. SoHO JOP033 (XBP/Jets) 10/31, 11/01, 11/03. K.Harvey (XBP) all week if weather improves at KPNO. SXT: SXT is presently following the large, faint region on the SW limb which is the target of JOP3. We are using a 3 arcmin west offpoint for better coverage at high altitude if a CME should occur. Short FFI exposures were replaced in the SXT table on Monday because of saturation at the small bipole at S30W45. SXT Chief Obs: L. Acton through Wednesday. S. Savy the rest of the week. Terminators: It is IMPORTANT to take every terminator opportunity until we obtain straylight correction images for the present Yohkoh 3 arcmin west offset. SSOC tohbans should examine the OP for possible terminator opportunities even if OP_FIRST_GUESS does show any. All terminators will be in invisible orbits this week because of the position of the SAA. SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 43 (21-Oct-96 to 26-Oct-92) This week we will be supporting SOHO JOP33 again on 10/31, 11/01 and 11/02. In addition Karen Harvey has scheduled an XBP campaign for 10/27-11/01. Yohkoh will provide target suggestions for these 2 complimentary campaigns. A dark calibration table will be loaded on Tuesday, and the weekly diffusers included as part of a standard table on Wednesday. Double table uploads are included in the plan for Thur, Fri & Sat for possible use in support of the XBP and JOP033 campaigns. Please note that the KSC pass ID and the SXT Table ID sometimes show different dates because of the JST/UT problem at this time. SSOC TOHBAN, please e-mail any terminator schedule to the chief observer (sxt_co@isass0) so that he can decide about filters and offpoints.
