3 November 1996 LWA SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT AND TABLE PLAN CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 44 27-Oct-96 to 02-Nov-96 SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity continued low this week. The system of loops associated with the old decaying active region in the SW rotated beyond the west limb. The disk of the sun is now covered with faint corona except at the poles where there are coronal holes. There are many x-ray bright points on the disk and at the poles. It is interesting that the old-region loops developed coronal holes on both east and west. I suppose this has resulted from the repeated coronal mass ejections that took place along this evolving magnetic neutral line. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS No problems or significant errors last week. SXT continues to function well. CAMPAIGNS The following campaigns were supported in week 44: SoHO JOP3 (CMEs) all week. SoHO JOP033 (XBP/Jets) 10/31, 11/01, 11/03. K.Harvey (XBP) all week. SEMINARS There was no seminar at ISAS in week 44. PLAN FOR WEEK 45 Most of our attention in week 45 will be given to the Yoyogi meeting. Only routine calibration and observing will take place. The data will be monitored to assure that SXT is in a satisfactory observing mode. SXT Chief Obs: S. Savy SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 45 (04-Nov-96 to 9-Nov-96) This week we will make SXT operations as simple as possible because of the Yohogi meeting. A dark calibration table will be loaded on Tuesday, and the weekly diffusers included as part of a standard table on Wednesday. All terminator opportunities will be used but no terminator offpoints will be required. Please note that the KSC pass ID and the SXT Table ID sometimes show different dates because of the JST/UT problem at this time. KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday 4-NOV-96 23:18 2 961104 P2 ARS0 LONG Tuesday 6-NOV-96 03:02 4 961105 P4 ARS0 DKCAL Wednesday 6-NOV-96 23:55 2 961106 P3 ARS0 LONG+DIFF Thursday 8-NOV-96 00:14 3 961107 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG Friday *** NO SXT TABLE *** Saturday 9-NOV-96 23:09 3 961109 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG *** Please note that this table plan may change *** Continuing requests: We request that KSC tohbans continue to dump a patrol image each time an SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters during quiet times. SSOC TOHBAN, please e-mail any terminator schedule to the chief observer (sxt_co@isass0) so that he can decide about filters and offpoints.
