24 November 1996 N Nitta SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT AND TABLE PLAN CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 47 18-Nov-96 to 24-Nov-96 SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity was quite low during the first half of the week, but the GOES flux started to increase on 22 November and it is currently at B2-B4. This is due to AR 7999, which was reported to have strong arch filaments. In coordination with SoHO JOP 3, we spent the first three days observing large-scale loops associated with a many-rotation-old active region, but nothing happened unfortunately. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS SXT had another week of smooth operations. An SEU (on Monday) was promptly recovered by the experts at KSC. CAMPAIGNS SoHO JOP 3 to observe CME onset ended on 20 November. We observed AR 7997, as requested at last minute by the SoHO/MDI team. SEMINARS No seminar because the both organizers happened to be in the US. SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 48 (25-Nov-96 to 1-Dec-96) Mark Weber has volunteered to be SXT Chief Observer until Christmas. We presently do not know of any campaigns planned for this week, so the following table plan does not include anything special. As usual, a dark calibration table will be loaded on Tuesday, and the weekly diffusers included as part of a standard table on Thursday. All terminator opportunities will be used but no terminator offpoints will be required. SSOC TOHBAN, please e-mail any terminator schedule to the chief observer (sxt_co@isass0) so that he can decide about filters and offpoints.
