SOLAR ACTIVITY

Solar activity was low, with four C-class flares. The GOES background level
hovered at C1-C2.

SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS

SXT continues to function well. No problems were reported.

This week's "science nugget" surveys the SXT data at the time of the
successful XDT rocket launch.

CAMPAIGNS

The major activity during the week was preparation for the launch of
the S520-CN rocket, scheduled for January 31, 04:30 UT. This involved
four separate tables, the final one adjusted for coordinates by H. Hara
from KSC.

A special jet observation was carried out for two orbits, with no
cooperation from the Sun this time. As usual.

PERSONNEL

Loren Acton departed. Hugh Hudson will be absent in week 6. Jim
Lang arrived from Rutherford for a week's stay.

We have no identified campaign observations this week. The plan
shows one special jet table upload, but this would depend upon
jet occurrence. This week the antenna maintenance at KSC has
ended and we have all of the standard real-time passes.

Note that this plan is subject to change. Note also that the
table names don't match very well because we are rotating
past 00 h UT - our convention is to name the table based on the
UT of pass 1 on that day.

Continuing requests:

SSOC Tohban: On the weekly visible diagram, please mark the official
five passes first and then cross out those passes that will be given to
other satellites.  That way we can keep the numbering straight in the
Yohkoh software system.

SSOC Tohban: SXT operations do not currently include terminator off- 
pointing. It is unnecessary this week to ask the SXT Chief Observer
for terminator off-pointing information.

KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for
example due to a typhoon) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for some
reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately.
