5 April 1998 Nariaki Nitta SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT AND TABLE PLAN CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 14 30-Mar-98 to 5-Apr-98 SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity was medium with many C-class flares. They were earlier produced in AR 8183 and AR 8185/8189 then in AR 8190/8191. Except for AR 8183, the activity centers were in the southern hemisphere. Moreover, a region at the back of the Sun seemed to be quite visible, occasionally presenting nice shows of dynamic motion, which would have pleased some theorests. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS SXT has continued to be working without problems. We adjusted the position of the patrol image to include the region appearing from the SE limb. SXT SCIENCE For Web material see Weekly: ftp://isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp/pub/sxt_co/SXTweekly.html Index: ftp://isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp/pub/sxt_co/index.html 1997: ftp://isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp/pub/yohkoh_in_1997/1997.html CAMPAIGNS There were no formal campaigns this week. PERSONNEL Hudson came back from Switzerland. Freeland arrived after a one-year break to provide software support to CDAW. Davey arrived from Montana State and is efficiently helping Freeland. There will be more people coming to participate in the CDAW. SEMINARS No seminars during the week. SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 98_15 (6-Apr-98 - 12-Apr-98) SXT Chief Observer: Nitta We do not plan special observations for this week, because there will be no campaigns and we will be heavily involved in the SoHO-Yohkoh CDAW. But if the SE region takes a dramatic turn, we may try something unusual. Note that this plan is subject to change. ________________________________#_______________________________ JST Day UT Start Time Pass Table ID Monday 6-APR-98 10:55 3 980406 P3 ARS1 STD Tuesday 7-APR-98 11:13 4 980407 P4 DARKCAL Wednesday 8-APR-98 09:48 3 980408 P3 ARS1 DIFF Thursday 9-APR-98 08:23 2 980409 P2 ARS1 STD Friday 10-APR-98 06:58 2 980410 P2 ARS1 STD Saturday 11-APR-98 05:34 2 980411 P2 ARS1 STD Continuing requests: SSOC Tohban: On the weekly visible diagram, please mark the official five passes first and then cross out those passes that will be given to other satellites. That way we can keep the numbering straight in the Yohkoh software system. SSOC Tohban: SXT operations do not currently include terminator off- pointing. It is unnecessary this week to ask the SXT Chief Observer for terminator off-pointing information. KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for example due to a typhoon) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for some reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp). KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, ie if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
