                   CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 11
                       06-March-00 through 11-Mar-00 


GENERAL 

Baseline solar activity stayed above C-level until the middle of the week, then
dropped back to below C from the 9th onwards. There were 3 M flares. 

SXT TECHNICAL 

SXT functioned properly, no new problems to report. Three terminators this 
week! (bringing the total to 4 since the pointing update)

The nugget this week discusses a solar flare observed in SXT and TRACE/Lyman 
alpha, in preparation for the start of Max Millenium Campaign #6.

CAMPAIGNS 

There were no coordinated campaigns this week. Next week sees the beginning
of Max Millenium campaign #6, which is a joint campaign with the IVM on 
Hawai'i, BBSO and TRACE, with the primary goal of making a confident 
identification of an H alpha line polarization signature during a solar flare.

                      SXT TABLE PLAN, WEEK 12
                      (13-Mar-00 - 18-Mar-00)

The planned operations for week 12 involve co-ordinated observations 
with TRACE/CDS/GBOs for Max Millenium Campaign #6, starting 14-Mar-00.
For this campaign, a special flare table  will be used. We may include
a few orbits of ARS0 - PFI dominant exposures on Thursday, which is the
only day we have sufficient Yohkoh contacts to try this.

KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for
example due to heavy snowfall) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for some
reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately.
(sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp).

KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a
flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the
chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table
without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers
should keep an eye on this.
