                   CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 15
                      3-April-00 through 9-April-00


GENERAL 

Yohkoh supported VLA observations and JOP083.  Activity was not high,
only four M flares.

SXT TECHNICAL 

SXT functioned properly, no new problems to report.

This week's nugget presents a comparison of solar variability as seen
in total irradiance and in soft X-rays. Pretty dull.

CAMPAIGNS 

In the middle of JOP083, and just finishing VLA observations with
Gopal's team. The rapid-run SFDs are successful.

No seminar last week because of the ASJ. This week: Akiyama and Watari.

with a single filter, looking at microflares. The contact has been Jack

example due to heavy snowfall) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for some
reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately.
(sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp).

KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a
flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the
chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table
without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers
should keep an eye on this.
