April 10, 2000 H. S. Hudson CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 15 3-April-00 through 9-April-00 GENERAL Yohkoh supported VLA observations and JOP083. Activity was not high, only four M flares. SXT TECHNICAL SXT functioned properly, no new problems to report. For Web material see Current Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/000407.html Index: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/index.html This week's nugget presents a comparison of solar variability as seen in total irradiance and in soft X-rays. Pretty dull. CAMPAIGNS In the middle of JOP083, and just finishing VLA observations with Gopal's team. The rapid-run SFDs are successful. For SXT plans, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_future.html For SXT completed campaigns, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_catalog.html PERSONNEL No changes. SEMINARS No seminar last week because of the ASJ. This week: Akiyama and Watari. SXT TABLE PLAN, WEEK 16 (9-Apr-00 - 16-Apr-00) JOP 83 continues. We have generally been doing high-cadence observations with a single filter, looking at microflares. The contact has been Jack Ireland at SOHO. ________________________________#_______________________________ JST Day UT Start Time Pass Table ID Sunday AM 8-APR-00 18:30 2 000408 P2 ARS1 STD* Tuesday AM 10-APR-00 20:32 4 000410 P4 ARS2 JOP83* Wednesday AM 11-APR-00 15:35 1 000411 P1 ARS2 JOP83+DF* Wednesday AM 11-APR-00 20:42 4 000411 P4 ARS2 JOP83+DK* Thursday AM 12-APR-00 14:04 1 000412 P1 ARS2 JOP83* Friday AM 13-APR-00 17:37 3 000413 P3 ARS2 JOP83* Saturday AM 14-APR-00 17:47 3 000414 P3 ARS2 JOP83* Sunday AM 15-APR-00 17:56 4 000415 P4 ARS1 STD * The ID reflects the UT date of the first pass. This table plan is likely to change. Continuing requests: KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for example due to heavy snowfall) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for some reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp). KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
