                   CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 16
                     10-April-00 through 16-April-00


GENERAL 

Yohkoh supported JOP083.  Activity was not high, only four M flares
(same as last week).

SXT TECHNICAL 

SXT functioned properly, no new problems to report but one SEU. We
carried out a routine repointing. SXT experimented with multiple H res
long exposures, as opposed to long/short movie pairs.

This week's nugget describes the impulsive excitation of an active-region
sigmoid by a flare in the JOP083 target region.

JOP 83 continues. We have generally been doing high-cadence observations
with a single filter, looking at microflares. The contact has been Jack

reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately.

KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a
flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the
chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table
without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers
should keep an eye on this.
