29 May, 2000 N. V. Nitta CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 22 22-May through 28-May-00 GENERAL The GOES background flux decreased roughly from C1 to B6 through the week, with a period of enhanced flare activity superimposed (24/25 May). None of these flares reached the M2 level. The X-ray Sun was dominated by AR 9002/4 complex in the beginning, and then by AR 9017. SXT TECHNICAL SXT was in fine working order. There were no apparent problems this week. Normal point was updated in the middle of the week. SXT SCIENTIFIC For Web material see Current Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/000526.html Index: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/index.html This week's nugget does not deal with interesting phenomena in recent data, but discusses a very old topic of SXT temperature maps for flares in comparison with HXT low-energy channel data. CAMPAIGNS There were no scheduled campaigns, but we tried high-cadence FFIs in the hope of capturing the onset of CMEs. For SXT plans, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_future.html For SXT completed campaigns, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_catalog.html PERSONNEL No change. SEMINARS There was no seminar this week. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp). KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
