                   CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 23
                       29-May-00 through 4-Jun-00


GENERAL 

Solar activity increased as AR 9026 rotated onto the disk.  During
the second half of the week, there were 6 M-class flares.  The two
strongest ones on 2 and 3 June (both around 19 UT) were well observed 
by Yohkoh.

SXT TECHNICAL 

SXT worked fine without apparent problems this week.

This week's nugget compares recent SXT and EIT/MDI data for trans-
equatorial interconnecting loops.  

CAMPAIGNS 

The TRACE-La Palma campaign to observe sunspots, which we did not 
officially participate in, but it turned out that we were observing 
the same region, i.e., AR 9026.

KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for
example due to heavy snowfall) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for some
reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately.
(sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp).

KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a
flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the
chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table
without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers
should keep an eye on this.
