CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 33 07-Aug-00 through 12-Aug-00 L.Fletcher, H. Hudson GENERAL Activity remained ceased, with only a small number of low C-class events, and a single M1.9 flare which occured, of course, during the CCD bakeout. SXT TECHNICAL SXT worked fine without apparent problems this week. A CCD bakeout was done on Tuesday 8th. An M1.9 flare occurred during the bakeout, and it was noted that ARS behaved erratically, taking only the first PFI image at the correct flare location, and then moving to another location which presumably appeared brighter because of high dark current. Apart from this, the bakeout proceeded normally. A report can be found at http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/bake_000808.html SXT SCIENTIFIC For Web material see the science nuggets: Current Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/000811.html Index: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/index.html The nugget this week describes the catching of an X-ray jet. The study of these animals will doubtless be furthered by this fortunate, and rare, jet occurrence inside the PFI (so, high resolution, highish cadence). The nugget remarks that the jet is associated with a microflare loop, but that it appears to originate in fact in a fainter loop to the north, which may not be in agreement with the `standard theory' of jet formation. CAMPAIGNS none. The table indicates that ARS1 will be used to track the brightest region. However, if a suitably bright (but not the brightest) region enters the MDI Hi-Res field of view, ARS2 may be used instead. Note, table names are different from those given in the draft plan. ________________________________#_______________________________ JST Day UT Start Time Pass Table ID Monday PM 14-AUG-00 06:38 3 000814 P3 ARS1 STD Tuesday PM 15-AUG-00 01:42 1 000815 P1 ARS1 DRKFL Tuesday PM 15-AUG-00 06:46 4 000815 P3 ARS1 DIFFL Wednesday PM 16-AUG-00 05:10 3 000816 P3 ARS1 RAPFL Thursday PM 17-AUG-00 03:35 2 000817 P2 ARS1 RAPFL Friday PM 18-AUG-00 03:43 2 000818 P2 ARS1 RAPFL Saturday PM 19-AUG-00 03:50 2 000819 P2 ARS1 STD * The ID reflects the UT date of the first pass.
