CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 34 21-Aug-00 through 26-Aug-00 L.Fletcher, H. Hudson GENERAL Activity again very low - only the usual C-class events occurred, plus one M-class flare on August 25. So Max Millenium flare campaign #10 was put on hold. Baseline activity dropped to low B-levels. SXT TECHNICAL SXT had no technical problems this week. We experimented with FFI tables, to return half-res images at a higher than normal cadence. Some ongoing glitches in the QUICK pages were fixed. The stray light level has increased by a couple of percent over the last 2 weeks, which may be cause for concern. SXT SCIENTIFIC For Web material see the science nuggets: Current Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/000825.html Index: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/index.html The nugget this week is a follow-up on the Bastille Day 2000 flare. It concentrates on the motion of the post-flare footpoint ribbons as they encounter all types of photospheric magnetic field structures. CAMPAIGNS The planned campaign, Max Millennium #10, was put on hold because of the extremely quiet solar conditions.
