CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 43 16-Oct-00 through 22-Oct-00 A. Takeda, D. McKenzie GENERAL Solar activity generally remained low this week, but we observed 2 M-class flares. One was on 16 Oct UT, at NOAA 9182 behind the west limb (M2.5), the third from this region (M1.5 on 12th and M1.1 on 14th). Another occurred on disk, 21st UT, in NOAA 9201 (M3.0). SXT TECHNICAL No problems this week. Pointing and roll remained stable. We updated normal pointing on 20th Oct. It reminds us of the famous "Italian Peninsula" observed with Skylab in 1970s. CAMPAIGNS JOP 104 continues, though because of more activity elsewhere we have been a non-participant. Continuing requests: KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for example due to heavy snowfall) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for some reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp). KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
