CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 44 23-Oct-00 through 28-Oct-00 A. Takeda, D. McKenzie GENERAL Solar activity was gradually rising since middle of the week. GOES backround level and the frequency of sub-M class flares were both increasing. While GOES observed 3 M-class flares(M1.1 on 27th, M1.7 on 28th, and M4.4 on 29th), SXT saw the former 2 and C8.5 flare on 26th. SXT TECHNICAL No problems this week. Pointing and roll remained stable. We updated normal pointing on 27th Oct. SXT SCIENTIFIC For Web material see the science nuggets: Current Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/001027.html Index: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/index.html The latest nugget reviews the pointing system of Yohkoh, giving good explanation for the bad pointing which Yohkoh underwent in week 42. CAMPAIGNS The final week cooperating with JOP 104, which ended on 27 Oct. We observed several regions same as the JOP's target on limbs. For SXT plans, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_future.html For SXT completed campaigns, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_catalog.html PERSONNEL No change. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp). KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
