CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 49

GENERAL 

Solar activity has decreased since AR9240, which produce five X-class
flares, went behind the limb. There were two M-class flares on 30 Nov.

SXT TECHNICAL 

No new problems this week. Pointing and roll appeared to remain stable.

This week's nugget reviews the CCD onboard Yohkoh; its basic mechanism, 
aging, mantainance, and so on.   

CAMPAIGNS 

The MEOC campaign will continue until 8-Dec.  
A CDS campaign by K. Hori will start on 4 through 8 December.

                     SXT TABLE PLAN, WEEK 50

A SoHO/CDS campaign, named VELAR, has been proposed by K. Hori, 
and we will cooperate with it(4 to 9 Dec). They will observe an 
active region, especially forcusing on its velocity distribution.
There are two table uploads planned for Tuesday and Thursday.

!!! Note that we have changed some of the table names given in
the draft, since the details of the campaign have been fixed.!!!

Continuing requests:

KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for
example due to heavy snowfall) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for some
reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately.
(sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp).

KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a
flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the
chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table
without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers
should keep an eye on this.
