CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 50

GENERAL 

Solar activity existed, but there was only one M-class flare.  

SXT TECHNICAL 

Roll appeared to remain stable, but we had trouble with new normal 
pointing adjustments. This trouble probably is not in the hardware. See 
http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/~hudson/scratch/pointing.gif.  
This plot shows that two ROG commands (Dec. 6 and Dec. 7) did not 
appear to change the pointing successfully.  The reasons for this need 
clarification.

This week's nugget discusses "homology" in the context of the X-class 
flares of Nov. 24, 25, and 26. They were probably better described as 
"similar", rather than "homologous".  

CAMPAIGNS 

We supported both the MEOC campaign and a conflicting CDS campaign
during this week. Because of target selection we could not get much
PFI data for the latter.

PERSONNEL

H. Hudson departed for the AGU meeting and Christmas.

example due to heavy snowfall) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for some
reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately.

KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a
flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the
chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table
without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers
should keep an eye on this.
