CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 2 8-Jan-01 through 14-Jan-01 H. Hudson, A. Takeda GENERAL Activity remained low - things always seem to start slowly after New Year's Day. Two M-class flares occurred, one of them quite interesting from the GOES viewpoint, but Yohkoh did not get observations of either. SXT TECHNICAL SXT is working fine, but there are still a few analysis software glitches related to the new year (Y2K+1 bugs, apparently). SXT SCIENTIFIC For Web material see the science nuggets: Last Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/010105.html "Motions of coronal-hole boundaries" Current Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/010112.html "'Starburst images'" and scattering research Index: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/index.html CAMPAIGNS No campaigns during the interval and none planned at present. We remain on the alert for sigmoids as a "target-of-opportunity". At the time of writing the E limb was showing signs of TIL activity. Continuing requests: KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for example due to typhoons) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for any reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp). KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
