CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 4

GENERAL 

The GOES backgound has been less than C-level on the average, but some
gorgeous eruptive events can be seen in SoHO/LASCO images in the weekend. 
One can find some of the corresponding features in our FFIs. 
M-class flares reported in this week are on ARs 9311(M1.0, 24th),
9325(M1.0, 26th), and 9313(M1.5, 28th).

SXT TECHNICAL 

No serious errors. 
The normal pointing was updated on 26-Jan-01 JST at pass 1(010125-1445).

The newest nugget(by HSH) entitled "A Coronal Conveyor Belt?" 
discusses about a coronal loop linking two regions and conveying
some hot plasma from one to another. 

CAMPAIGNS 

No campaigns during the interval and none planned at present.
We remain on the alert for sigmoids as a "target-of-opportunity".

There are no formal campaigns scheduled for this week, although we
are on the alert for sigmoid active regions. 
We are reconsidering the way to take super-long-exposure images in
the period of solar maximum. These images are used for an XBP 
research by Nakakubo & Hara for years. As a trial, we will upload 
two tables a day this week.

A '*' signifies that the date of the table ID does not agree with
the JST date of the pass in question.

Continuing requests:

KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for
example due to typhoons) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for any 
reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately.
(sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp).

KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a
flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the
chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table
without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers
should keep an eye on this.
