CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 6 5-Feb-01 through 11-Feb-01 H. Hudson GENERAL Dead quiet solar conditions; no M's or X's. SXT TECHNICAL No problems. SXT SCIENTIFIC For Web material see the science nuggets: Current Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/010209.html Index: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/index.html The newest nugget, "A most peculiar high-energy event," describes a mm-wave event observed by visitor Silja Pohjolainen - the evidence strongly suggests long-term trapping of relativistic electrons in a (very) faint arcade structure seen by SXT. CAMPAIGNS No campaigns during the interval and none planned at present. We remain on the alert for sigmoids as a "target-of-opportunity". For SXT plans, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_future.html For SXT completed campaigns, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_catalog.html PERSONNEL No changes. SEMINARS No seminar. SXT TABLE PLAN, WEEK 7 (12-Feb-01 through 17-Feb-01) There are no formal campaigns scheduled for this week, although we are on the alert for sigmoid active regions. Test observations for HESSI are under way this week, currently focusing on AR 9330. On the basis of discussion and some analysis, we're starting a new policy. The 30-sec exposures will be taken only a few times a week in conjunction with the weekly diffuser cals, which we'll run overnight instead of just for two orbits. ________________________________#_______________________________ JST Day UT Start Time Pass Table ID Monday PM 12-FEB-01 14:47 3 010212 P3 ARS1 STD Tuesday PM 13-FEB-01 13:08 3 010213 P3 ARS1 DXBP Wednesday PM 14-FEB-01 09:48 1 010214 P1 DARKCAL Wednesday PM 14-FEB-01 14:53 4 010214 P4 STD Thursday PM 15-FEB-01 13:14 3 010215 P3 STD Friday PM 16-FEB-01 11:35 3 010216 P3 STD Saturday PM 17-FEB-01 11:37 3 010217 P3 STD The date-part of a table ID reflects the UT date of the pass 1. Continuing requests: KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for example due to typhoons) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for any reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp). KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
