CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 8 19-Feb-01 through 25-Feb-01 N. Nitta GENERAL Low solar activity continues without M-class or X-class flares. SXT TECHNICAL No problems. SXT SCIENTIFIC For Web material see the science nuggets: Current Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/010223.html Index: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/index.html The newest nugget, "Two-stage dimming," describes a possibly new type of soft X-ray dimming. It would be nice if we could understand how different types of dimming reflect in the associated CMEs. CAMPAIGNS We coordinated with the CDS quiet Sun campaign on Saturday. For SXT plans, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_future.html For SXT completed campaigns, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_catalog.html PERSONNEL G. Slater returned to the US. SEMINARS No seminar this week. SXT TABLE PLAN, WEEK 9 (26-Feb-01 through 3-Mar-01) We are aware of two campaigns this week. One is JOP 137 to study the dynamics of active region loops (TRACE+CDS+SUMER), and the other (JOP 138) to study small-scale eruptions (VLA+TRACE+EIT+CDS). ________________________________#_______________________________ JST Day UT Start Time Pass Table ID Monday PM 26-FEB-01 10:22 4 010226 P4 ARS1 STD Tuesday PM 27-FEB-01 03:39 1 010227 P1 ARS1 DARKCAL Tuesday PM 27-FEB-01 08:43 4 010227 P4 ARS2 DIF Wednesday PM 28-FEB-01 05:22 2 010228 P2 ARS2 JOP137 Thursday PM 1-MAR-01 05:25 2 010301 P2 ARS2 JOP137 Friday PM 2-MAR-01 07:10 4 010302 P4 ARS2 VLA Saturday PM 3-MAR-01 03:49 2 010303 P2 ARS1 STD The date part of a table ID reflects the UT date of pass 1. Continuing requests: KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for example due to typhoons) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for any reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp). KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
