CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 9

GENERAL 

Low solar activity continues without M-class or X-class flares.

SXT TECHNICAL 

On 1 March, the on-board data processor had an error (SEU?), but it was 
about an hour before an error flag was set by the SXT on-board computer.
Some images had wrong exposure times. The detailed sequence of the 
anomaly is being investigated.

The newest nugget, "The temperature of active region loops", gives an     
attempt to use images in four filters to characterize the corona
in terms of two-temperature distributions.  This should be an on-going
effort.

CAMPAIGNS 

We made an unsolicited participation in JOP 137 to observe AR 9537,
and also observed the target of JOP 138 (to understand metric noise
storms).

PERSONNEL

H. Hudson came back over the weekend, but will be gone again a week 
later.  Visitor S. Kahler arrived.  He will be here until the end of 
April, primarily to work on the coronal hole boundaries.

A '*' means that the UT date of pass 1 differs from the JST date
of the pass in question

Continuing requests:

KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for
example due to typhoons) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for any 
reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately.
(sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp).

KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a
flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the
chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table
without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers
should keep an eye on this.
