CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 20 14-May-01 through 20-May-01 A. Takeda GENERAL Solar activity was moderate throuth the week. Main source of the activity was AR 9455, which produced three M1-class flares. SXT underwent 3 runs of flare mode, which included an M1.2 event in AR 9455 on the 17th. The data coverage for this event is pretty good, although we couldn't detect any clear associated waves. SXT TECHNICAL No new problems. SXT SCIENTIFIC For Web material see the science nuggets: Current Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/010518.html Index: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/index.html This week's science nugget picks up a technical topic after a while. It reviews the image buffer system adopted for SXT, and introduces how cleverly they are managed to create an uninterrupted flow of the telemetry. CAMPAIGNS We coopreted with MEDOC campaign, which consists of some independant JOPs. For this week, we supported JOP131/107 lead by B. Schmieder and mainly observed a filament/prominence having approached toward the SW-limb. For SXT plans, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_future.html For SXT completed campaigns, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_catalog.html PERSONNEL N. Nitta arrived on 20th. SEMINARS No seminar for this week. SXT TABLE PLAN, WEEK 21 (21-May-01 through 27-May-01) We continue to support MEDOC campaign No. 7, but the emphasis is shifted to observing active regions that are likely to produce CMEs. _______________________________________________________________ JST Day UT Start Time Pass Table ID Monday PM 21-MAY-01 11:12 1 010521 P1 ARS2 DRK W Tuesday AM 21-MAY-01 16:15 4 010521 P4 ARS1 STD W* Tuesday PM 22-MAY-01 11:11 1 010522 P1 ARS2 DIF W Wednesday AM 22-MAY-01 16:16 4 010522 P4 ARS1 STD W* Wednesday PM 23-MAY-01 11:11 1 010523 P1 ARS2 MEDOC Thursday AM 23-MAY-01 16:16 4 010523 P4 ARS1 STD W* Thursday PM 24-MAY-01 09:30 1 010524 P1 ARS2 MEDOC Thursday PM 24-MAY-01 14:34 4 010524 P4 ARS1 STD W Friday PM 25-MAY-01 09:30 1 010525 P1 ARS2 MEDOC Friday PM 25-MAY-01 14:34 4 010525 P4 ARS1 STD W Saturday PM 26-MAY-01 09:29 1 010526 P1 ARS2 MEDOC Saturday PM 26-MAY-01 14:34 4 010526 P4 ARS1 STD W The date part of a table ID reflects the UT date of pass 1. Continuing requests: KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for example due to typhoons) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for any reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp). KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
