CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 27 01-Jul-01 through 07-Jul-01 D. McKenzie GENERAL Solar activity declined during the week, with no M-class flares, and in fact only two flares above C level. The X-ray background at the end of the week was B2. SXT TECHNICAL No new technical issues to report. Pointing was steady, and the instrument performed according to our usual expectations. A normal pointing update was requested on 6-July, and was carried out that night. CAMPAIGNS JOP 100, "Active Region DEM for Heating & Magnetography Studies", will begin this week. The campaign runs on July 12,15,17,19,23, for four hours at a time. SXT will make PFIs in all five analysis filters, possibly with ARS2 pointing. STD+J100 The date part of a table ID reflects the UT date of pass 1. The "*" in the table ID indicates that the JST date of the upload is different from the UT date of Pass 1. This table plan is likely to change. Prepare for last minute changes. Continuing requests: KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for example due to typhoons) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for any reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp). KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
