CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 31 30-Jul-01 through 4-Aug-01 A. Takeda GENERAL The solar activity was not so high during the week, but many of C-class and three M-class flares were reported. The source of major flare activity was NOAA 9562 early in the week and moved to NOAA 9563 which produced M1.5 flare on 3-Aug, and then NOAA 9557 and 9567 in the weekend. SXT could observe some of them including M1.5 on 3-Aug. SXT TECHNICAL No new problems to report. Continuing requests: KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for example due to typhoons) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for any reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp). KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
