WEEKLY ACTIVITY REPORT - WEEK ENDING JUNE 19, 1992 FROM: D. P. Cauffman O/91-30 B252 X43390 CONTRACT ACTIVITY YOHKOH PRESENTATIONS AT THE AAS-SPD MEETING IN COLUMBUS The Yohkoh Team presented a total of 18 papers detailing the initial results from the mission at the recent AAS-SPD meeting in Columbus, Ohio. There were three sessions that featured Yohkoh results. They were all well attended. Lockheed made 200 VHS videos available that were handed out free to the attendees. These were enthusiastically recieved and we are still getting requests for more. A press conference was held which featured a presentation of SXT results by Dr. Marilyn Bruner (O/91-30) during which the video was presented to them. The normally jaded press corps reacted with surprising interest. In fact they interviewed Dr. Bruner and Dr. Keith Strong for several hours after the press conference was over. These discussions should result in several popular and feature articles. The impact of the SXT data is obviously going to be a powerful tool to promote the work we do in the Lockheed Solar & Astrophysics Laboratory in particular as well as in the Lockheed Research & Development Division in general. SOLAR X-RAY TELESCOPE An extensive bibliography of more than 45 papers has been compiled on SXT although a whole year has not passed since launch. An additional 30 papers have been submitted for publication. This remarkable feat is a tribute to the scientific community and also in great part to the staff that developed the software that allows the extensive utilization of the data by all participants very soon after observations are made, and for some, in near real time. NEW BUSINESS COMMERCIALIZATION ASSESSMENT On June 16, 1992, Rebecca Welling and Ed Huber of 97-01 visited the Solar and Astrophysics Laboratory, O/91-30, where they were shown our CCD camera development work and our electromechanical devices for optical use. After a familization tour, discussions were held to help us assess the commercial potential of these devices. This was a useful step towards understanding how to interact with customers in a different mode than when we ourselves are setting the requirements. D. P. Cauffman, Manager Solar and Astrophysics Laboratory
