SXT Status Report November 6 through November 26, 2000 (Weeks 46-48) H. Hudson, D. McKenzie, G. Slater, A. Takeda SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity exhibited a major peak near the end of this interval, with no fewer than four X-class flares. Counting M and X, there were about 18 events during these three weeks. The region responsible for the fireworks, AR9236, chose to produce compact and impulsive flares, seemingly homologous from a GOES point of view, and all launching halo CMEs. OBSERVING CAMPAIGNS The ASP campaign (magnetic structure and heating) ran successfully at Sacramento Peak Observatory, ending on Nov. 22; at the time of writing the MEOC campaign (waves) was having enormously good luck, first with its original target region (9231) and now the X-flare region 9236. Please see our webpages for more details about campaigns past and future: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_catalog.html http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_future.html SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS AND CALIBRATION ACTIVITIES Instrument status is good, with no new problems to report. Pointing and roll remained stable. The z-axis drift rate is being closely monitored, with ~daily "STT MAP" operation. Normal pointing was updated on 7-Nov-00. NASA should be doing 7*6 = 42, so we hope they come back up to snuff. OBSERVING SEQUENCES: The flare sequence tables continue with the long/short half/full overexposed/normal sequences that we hope will lead to a breakthrough in our ability to do SXT scattered-light corrections and make temperature maps in faint regions near bright ones. Most of the FFI observations during this interval were done with the modified "rapid" scheme, which produces sets of four long-exposure AlMg movies. We hope that these eight-minute glimpses will give us good views of global waves. SEMINARS: S.
