SXT Status Report 22 April - 6-May, 2001 (Weeks 17-18) H. Hudson, A. Takeda SOLAR ACTIVITY Activity was moderate, with 14 M flares (well, one a day is not so bad). Of these the most notable probably will be the sigmoid-induced eruptive flare on 5-May 08:56 (see below). OBSERVING CAMPAIGNS At last, a sigmoid alert was called. This led to an eruptive M-class flare, but at the time of writing we have not seen the Yohkoh data yet. The alert continues through Max Millennium, and there is now a "finding chart" Web page at http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sigmoid.gif Please see our webpages for more details about campaigns past and future: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_catalog.html http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_future.html SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS AND CALIBRATION ACTIVITIES There were no particular instrumental issues during these two weeks. Normal pointing was updated 26-Apr. At the weekly operations meeting May 7, there was some discussion of the office move from D-toh to the new space in A-toh. The working hypothesis now is that this move will take place some time after the summer, At that time the new broad-band link will be available. TELEMETRY DOWNLINKS Week Wallops Santiago Goldstone Canberra Madrid NASA Japan 17 28 0 1 0 0 29 28 18 33 0 1 5 3 42 28 Kagoshima should average 6*5+2 = 32 and the NASA target is 7*6 = 42. OBSERVING SEQUENCES: We continue to run the 2x2 flare-mode PFIs and the "rapid" FFIs in the hopes of catching more waves. May 4: "Hard X-ray ejection: work in progress" provides more information about the exciting ejective event seen in hard X-rays and microwaves on April 18.
