SXT Status Report 7 - 27 May 2001 (Weeks 19-21) N. Nitta H. Hudson, A. Takeda SOLAR ACTIVITY Activity was a little lower than the previous reporting period, with less than 10 M-class flares and no X-class flares in three weeks. Many active regions appeared, but none of them were super-active. Instead, this period may be characterized by beautiful eruptions. For example, SXT full-disk images recorded a spectacular eruption on the northeast limb on 15 May (18:20 UT), and half an hour later, a CME with the classic three-part structure was seen by the LASCO C2 telescope. In addition, cusp-shaped loops persisted in the northern hemisphere, and the adjacent corona was restructured a couple of times, clearly involving the back side. Northern off-point would have given us a better 3-d view of the large-scale corona. OBSERVING CAMPAIGNS We participated in MEDOC campaign #7, which involved multiple SOHO JOPs. The first week was spent on filaments to study their dynamics, and the second week was to observe flares with a specific objective to study helium abundance. The Sun was not not necessarily cooperative, however. Please see our webpages for more details about campaigns past and future: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_catalog.html http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_future.html SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS AND CALIBRATION ACTIVITIES There were no particular instrumental issues during these three weeks. Normal pointing was updated on 14 and 24 May.
