CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 47

GENERAL 

Solar activity was moderate this week. The Sun produced three M flares.
AR9231, which appeared on the east limb early this week (w47) and now is
located around central meridian, showed remarkable magnetic evolution
yielding two M- and several C-class flares. This region is now the 
target of both the ASP and MEOC campaigns. 

SXT TECHNICAL 

No new problems this week. Pointing and roll appeared to remain stable.

This week's nugget describes the M7.4 flare observed on late 8 Nov,
accompanied by a great proton event.

CAMPAIGNS 

The MEOC campaign, looking for EIT-type waves, will continue until 8-Dec.  
The ASP campaign of Shimizu & Kubo began on 14th through 22th-Nov.

The MEOC campaign continues this week, and the ASP campaign started 
on 14th. Faster-cadence FFIs for MEOC, and ARS2 PFIs for ASP.
There are two table uploads planned for Tuesday and Thursday.

Continuing requests:

KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for
example due to heavy snowfall) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for some
reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately.
(sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp).

KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a
flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the
chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table
without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers
should keep an eye on this.
