CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 5

GENERAL 

The GOES backgound has been less than C-level in most days during 
the week. 2 M-class flares are reported on AR 9313(M1.5, 28-Jan) and
9334(M2.R4 2-Feb), for both of which Yohkoh missed the significant 
portion of their light curves due to S/C nights and SAAs.   

SXT TECHNICAL 

No serious errors.

The newest nugget(by AkT) entitled "A Dark 'S' Erupted!" 
describes a large S-shaped H alpha filament, which can be seen on the 
disk during the week 4 and erupted on 26-Jan acompanied by a CME.

CAMPAIGNS 

No campaigns during the interval and none planned at present.
We remain on the alert for sigmoids as a "target-of-opportunity".

There are no formal campaigns scheduled for this week, although we
are on the alert for sigmoid active regions. 
We are reconsidering the way to take super-long-exposure (30s) images 
in the period of solar maximum. These images are used for an XBP 
research for years. We will upload two tables a day, again this week.

The date-part of a table ID reflects the UT date of the pass 1. 
A '*' signifies that the date of the table ID does not agree with
the JST date of the pass in question.

This table plan is subject to change. 

Continuing requests:

KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for
example due to typhoons) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for any 
reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately.
(sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp).

KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a
flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the
chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table
without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers
should keep an eye on this.
